Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 8

Here is my Restored English Translation (RET) of the Book of Beresheet (Genesis).  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names and the Aleph Tavs (even though I now seriously doubt them), as well as a glossary of the Hebrew names at the end.

Chapter 8 continues the Flood narrative that began in chapter 6.  A note on chapter 7: it specifically says (verse 20) that the waters rose 15 cubits (7.5 metres, or 24.6 feet) above the highest mountains, thus disproving the notion that the Flood was local.  Water seeks its own level, and cannot drown the highest mountain without drowning everything else on the planet.  (Kinda like the tsunami that drowned the Himalayas in the movie 2012; it would have been simply impossible for any of the rest of the planet to survive.  Same situation here – literally, albeit with fewer survivors, and only one ark, and no unrighteous elite.)

And with regards to Noah’s Ark: there is abundant eyewitness evidence that it currently resides on Mount Ararat, confirming the Biblical account.

CHAPTER 8

1 And remembered ELOHIM את Noach and את every living thing and את all the beasts that were with him in the ark. And ELOHIM made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided. 2 The fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were stopped, and the rain from the heavens was restrained. 3 And the waters retreated from off the earth, going and retreating. And after the end of 150 days the waters were diminished. 4 And the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat in the 7th month, on the 17th day of the month. 5 And the waters were going down and falling until the 10th month. In the 10th month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen. 6 And it happened at the end of 40 days that opened Noach את the window of the ark which he had made. 7 And he sent out את the raven; and it went out, going and returning until the waters were dried up from off the earth. 8 He also sent out את the dove from him, to see if the waters had receded from off the face of the ground. 9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned to him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. Then he put forth his hand and took her, and pulled her to him into the ark. 10 And he waited yet another 7 days and again he sent forth את the dove out of the ark. 11 And the dove returned to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off. So Noach knew that the waters had receded from off the earth. 12 And he stayed yet another 7 days, and sent out את the dove, and she did not return to him anymore. 13 And it happened in the 601st year, in the beginning, on the first of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth. 14 And in the second month, on teh 27th day of the month, the earth was dried.

15 And ELOHIM spoke to Noach, saying, 16 “Go out out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. 17 Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh: of birds, and of beasts, and of every crawling thing that crawls on the earth, that they may breed abundantly on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.” 18 And Noach went out, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him. 19 Every beast, every crawling thing, and every bird, and whatever crawls on the earth, went out of the ark after their kinds. 20 And Noach built an altar to YEHOVAH, and took of every clean beast, and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And smelled YEHOVAH את the soothing fragrance. And YEHOVAH said in His heart, “I will not curse again את the ground anymore because of the humans, because the thought of humanity’s heart is evil from his youth. And I will not again strike את every living thing as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

  1. The amount of energy devoted to disproving the Bible is laughable these days. So much abstract “evidence” that requires serious mental gymnastics. The perceived ability to “prove” the latest man-made or man-deciphered “this is why or how this happens”, latest whatever. Awesome post, keep it up.
