Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 39

G’day, mates!  Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet (Genesis) chapter 39.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names, with a glossary of them afterward.  At the end is a list of where the Aleph Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text.

CHAPTER 39

1 And Yosef was brought down to Mitsrayim.  And Potifar, an officer of Pharaoh, chief of the executioners, a Mitsri man, bought him from the hands of the Yishma’elim who had brought him down there. 2 And YEHOVAH was with Yosef, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Mitsri. 3 And his master saw that YEHOVAH was with him, and that YEHOVAH made all that Yosef did to prosper in his hand. 4 And Yosef found grace in his sight, and he served him. And he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. 5 And it was from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that YEHOVAH blessed the house of the Mitsri for Yosef’s sake. And the blessing of YEHOVAH was on all that he had in the house and in the field. 6 And he left all that he had in Yosef’s hand; and he did not know what he had, save the bread which he ate. And Yosef was fair in appearance and handsome to look upon. 7 And it was after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes on Yosef, and said, “Have sex with me.” 8 But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back any thing from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against ELOHIM?” 10 And it was, as she spoke to Yosef day by day, that he did not listen to her, to have sex with her, or to be with her. 11 And it was about this time that Yosef went into the house to do his business; and none of the men of the house were there in the house. 12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, “Have sex with me.” And he left his garment in her hand and fled, and went outside. 13 And it was, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had fled outside, 14 that she called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying, “See, he has brought in an Ivri man to us to mock us! He came to me to have sex with me, and I cried with a loud voice. 15 And it was, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and went outside.” 16 And she kept his garment beside her until his master came home. 17 And she spoke these same words to him, saying, “The Ivri servant, whom you have brought to us, came in to me to mock me. 18 And it was, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me and fled outside.” 19 And it was, when his master heard the words of his wife which she spoke to him, saying, “According to these words your servant spoke to me,” that his anger glowed. 20 And Yosef’s master took him and put him into the dungeon, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound. And he was there in the dungeon. 21 But YEHOVAH was with Yosef, and showed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the chief of the dungeon. 22 And the chief of the dungeon committed to Yosef’s hand all the prisoners that were in the dungeon; and whatever they did there, he was the doer of it. 23 The chief of the dungeon did not look to any thing that was under his hand; because YEHOVAH was with him, and that which he did, YEHOVAH made it to prosper.
