Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 40

Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet (Genesis) chapter 40.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names, with a glossary of them afterwards.  At the end is a list of where the Aleph-Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text.

(Just to clarify: I am the translator.  This is my own translation of the Bible, which I am in the process of translating.)

CHAPTER 40

1 And it was after these things that the cup bearer of the king of Mitsrayim and his baker had sinned against their master the king of Mitsrayim. 2 And Pharaoh was angry against two of his officers, against the chief of the cupbearers, and against the chief of the bakers. 3 And he put them under guard in the house of the chief of the executioners, into the dungeon, the place where Yosef was then bound. 4 And the chief of the executioners charged Yosef with them, and he served them. And they were many days under guard. 5 And they dreamed a dream, both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Mitsrayim, who were bound in the dungeon. 6 And Yosef came in to them in the morning and looked on them, and behold, they were sad. 7 And he asked the officers of Pharaoh that were with him under the guard of his master’s house, saying, “Why do you look so sad today?” 8 And they said to him, “We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it.” And Yosef said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to ELOHIM? Please tell me them.” 9 And the chief cupbearer told Yosef his dream and said to him, “In my dream, behold, a vine was before me. 10 And in the vine were 3 branches. And it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot up; and the clusters of it ripened into grapes. 11 And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.” 12 And Yosef said to him, “This is the interpretation of it: the 3 branches are 3 days. 13 Yet within 3 days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place, and you will deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former custom when you were his cupbearer. 14 But think on me when it will be well with you, and please show kindness to me, and make mention of me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house. 15 For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Ivrim. And here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.” 16 And the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good; and he said to Yosef, “I also in my dream saw 3 baskets of white bread on my head. 17 And in the uppermost basket there was of all kinds of food for Pharaoh; and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head.” 18 And Yosef answered and said, “This is the interpretation of it: the 3 baskets are 3 days. 19 Yet within 3 days Pharaoh will lift up your head from off you and will hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from off you.” 20 And it was on the 3rd day, which was the birthday of Pharaoh, that he made a feast to all his servants. And he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of of the chief baker among his servants. 21 And he restored the chief cupbearer to his cupbearing again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand. 22 But he hanged the chief baker, as Yosef had interpreted to them. 23 Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Yosef, but forgot him.
