Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 45

Here I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Genesis (Hebrew: Beresheet) chapter 45.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names, with a glossary of them after the chapter.  At the end is a list of where the Aleph Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text.

CHAPTER 45

1 Then Yosef could not contain himself before all those that stood by him. And he cried, “Cause every man to go out from me.” And no man stood with him, while Yosef made himself known to his brothers. 2 And he gave his voice to weeping; and the Mitsrim and the house of Pharaoh heard. 3 And Yosef said to his brothers, “I am Yosef. Is my father still alive?” And his brothers could not answer him, for they inwardly trembled at his presence. 4 And Yosef said to his brothers, “Please come near to me.” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother Yosef, whom you sold into Mitsrayim. 5 Now do not be grieved, nor angry with yourselves that you sold me here. For ELOHIM did send me before you to preserve life; 6 for the famine has been in the land these 2 years, and there are still 5 years in the which there will neither be plowing nor harvest. 7 And ELOHIM sent me before you to put for you a remnant in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 8 So now it was not you that sent me here, but ELOHIM. And He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and master of all his house, and a ruler in all the land of Mitsrayim. 9 Hurry and go up to my father, and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Yosef, “ELOHIM has made me master of all Mitsrayim. Come down to me, do not delay.”‘ 10 And you will live in the land of Goshen and you will be near to me, you and your sons and your sons’ sons, and your flocks, and your herds, and all that you have. 11 And there will I nourish you, for there are still 5 years of famine, lest you and your household and all that you have come to poverty. 12 And behold, your eyes and the eyes of my brother Binyamin see that it is my mouth that speaks to you. 13 And you will tell my father of all my glory in Mitsrayim, and all that you have seen. And hurry and bring my father down here.” 14 And he fell on his brother Binyamin’s neck and wept; and Binyamin wept on his neck. 15 And he kissed all his brothers, and wept on them. And after that his brothers spoke with him. 16 And the word was heard in Pharaoh’s house, saying, “Yosef’s brothers have come.” And it was pleasing in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants. 17 And Pharaoh said to Yosef, “Say to your brothers, ‘Do this: load your beasts and go, go to the land of Kena’an. 18 And take your father and your households and come to me, and I will give to you the good of the land of Mitsrayim, and you will eat the fat of the land. 19 Now you are commanded, do this: take for yourself wagons out of the land of Mitsrayim for your little ones and for your wives, and bring your father, and come. 20 Also don’t let your eye regard your vessels, for the good of all the land of Mitsrayim is yours.'” 21 And the sons of Yisra’el did so. And Yosef gave them wagons as Pharaoh spoke, and gave them food for the way. 22 To all of them, to each one, he gave changes of clothing; but to Binyamin he gave 300 pieces of silver, and 5 changes of clothes. 23 And to his father he sent this: 10 donkeys bearing the good things of Mitsrayim, and 10 female donkeys bearing grain and bread and food for his father for the way. 24 So he sent his brothers and they went. And he said to them, “Do not quarrel on the way.” 25 And they went up out of Mitsrayim and came to the land of Kena’an, to their father Ya’akov. 26 And they told him, saying, “Yosef is still alive, and he is governor over all the land of Mitsrayim.” And his heart fainted, for he did not believe them. 27 And they told him all the words of Yosef, which he had said to them. And he saw the wagons which Yosef had sent to carry him. And their father Ya’akov’s spirit revived. 28 And Yisra’el said, “Enough! My son Yosef is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”
