Restored English Translation of Esther: Chapter 15

Well, at long last, I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of the final chapter of the Megillat Ester (aka Book of Esther) – chapter 15.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names, with a glossary of them at the end.

(NOTE: to clarify, this is my own translation of the Bible, largely based on the King James Version.)

You may be unfamiliar with most of this chapter (the first 3 verses form Chapter 10 in most translations); see Restored English Translation of Esther: Chapter 1 and The Canon of Scripture, Part 1: The Apocrypha.

CHAPTER 15

1 And the king Achashverosh laid a tribute on the land, and on the islands of the sea. 2 And all the acts of his power and of his might, and the declaration of the greatness of Mordekai, to which the king advanced him, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Madai and Paras? 3 For Mordekai the Yehudi was next to King Achashverosh, and was great among the Yehudim, and accepted among the multitude of his brothers, seeking the good of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed. 4 And Mordekai said, “ELOHIM has done these things. 5 For I remember a dream which I saw concerning these matters, and none of it has failed. 6 A little fountain became a river, and there was light, and the sun, and abundant water. This river is Ester, whom the king married, and made queen. 7 And the two dragons are Haman and myself. 8 The nations were those that assembled to destroy the name of the Yehudim. 9 And my nation is this Yisra’el, who cried to ELOHIM, and were saved; for YEHOVAH has saved His people, and YEHOVAH has delivered us from all those evils, and ELOHIM has wrought signs and great wonders, which have not been done among the gentiles. 10 Therefore He has made two lots, one for the people of ELOHIM, and another for all the gentiles. 11 And these two lots came at the hour, and time, and day of judgment, before ELOHIM among all nations. 12 So ELOHIM remembered His people, and vindicated His inheritance. 13 Therefore those days will be observed by them in the month Adar, on the 14th and 15th day of that month, with an assembly and joy and with gladness before ELOHIM, according to the generations for ever among His people Yisra’el.” 14 In the 4th year of the reign of Ptolemy and Cleopatra, Dositheus (who said he was a cohen and Levi’i) and his son Ptolemy brought this letter of Purim to Mitsrayim, which they said was authentic, and that Lysimachus the son of Ptolemy, who was in Yerushalayim, had translated it.
