Restored English Translation of Matthew: Chapter 2

Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Matityahu (Matthew) chapter 2.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names, with a glossary of them at the end.

CHAPTER 2

1 Now when YEHOSHUA was born in Beyt-Lechem of Yehudah in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Yerushalayim, 2 saying, “Where is he who is born King of the Yehudim? For we have seen his star in the east, and have come with important gifts to pay homage to him.” 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Yerushalayim with him. 4 And when he had gathered all the chief cohenim and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where Messiah should be born. 5 And they said to him, “In Beyt-Lechem of Yehudah, for thus it is written by the prophet, 6 “And you Beyt-Lechem Efratah, are not the least among the princes of Yehudah; for out of you will come a ruler who will govern My people Yisra’el.” 7 Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Beyt-Lecham, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young Child; and when you have found Him, bring me word again, that I may come and pay homage to Him also.” 9 When they had heard the king, they departed. And behold, the star which they saw in the east went before them, until it came and stood over where the Boy was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. 11 And when they came into the house, they saw the Boy with His mother Miryam, and fell down and paid homage to Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. 12 And it was when they were fast asleep, that behold, the messenger appeared to them, saying, “Beware of returning to Yerushalayim to Herod.” And they went and returned to their own land, by another way. 13 And when they were departed, behold, the messenger of YEHOVAH appeared to Yosef in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the Boy and His mother, and flee to Mitsrayim, and be there until I bring you word. For Herod will seek the Boy to destroy Him. 14 When he arose, he took the Boy and His mother by night, and departed into Mitsrayim. 15 And he was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of YEHOVAH by the prophet, saying, I have called by son out of Mitsrayim.” 16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding angry, and sent forth and slew all the children that were in Beyt-Lechem, and in all the borders of it, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. 17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Yirmeyahu the prophet, saying, 18 “In Rama a voice was heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not. 19 But when Herod the King was dead, behold, a messenger of YEHOVAH appeared in a dream to Yosef in Mitsrayim, 20 saying, Arise, and take the Boy and His mother, and go into the land of Yisra’el; for they who sought the Boy’s life are dead.21 And he arose and took the Boy and His mother, and came into the land of Yisra’el. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus reigned in Yehudah in the place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned of ELOHIM in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galil. 23 And he came and lived in a city called Natsaret; that it might be fulfilled what was spoken by the prophets, He will be called a Natsaret.
