Restored English Translation of Esther: Chapter 10

Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Ester (Esther) chapter 10.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names, with a glossary of them after the chapter.  At the end is a list of where the Aleph Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text.

CHAPTER 10

1 On that night the king’s sleep fled, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the King. 2 And it was found written that Mordekai had told of Bigtana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, the guards of the door, who sought to lay hand on the King Achashverosh. 3 And the king asked, “What honour and dignity has been done to Mordekai for this?” Then the King’s servants who ministered to him said, “There is nothing done for him.” 4 And the king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had come into the outward court of the King’s House, to speak to the King to hang Mordekai on the wooden gallows that he had prepared for him. 5 And the king’s young servants said to him, “Behold, Haman stands in the court.” And the king said, “Let him come in.” 6 So Haman came in. And the king said to him, “What will be done to the man whom the King delights to honour?” Now Haman thought in his heart, “To whom would the king delight to do honour to more than myself?” 7 And Haman answered the King, “For the man whom the king delights to honour, 8 let the royal clothes which the king wears be brought, and the horse that the king rides on, and the royal crown which is set on his head. 9 And let this clothing and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delights to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, ‘Thus it is done to the man whom the king delights to honour.'” 10 Then the king said to Haman, “Make haste, and take the clothing and the horse, as you have said, and do even so for Mordekai the Yehudi, who sits at the king’s gate. Let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.” 11 Then Haman took the clothing and the horse, and dressed Mordekai, and rode him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, “Thus it will be done to the man whom the King delights in honouring.” 12 And Mordekai came again to the King’s gate. But Haman hurried to his house mourning, and covering his head. 13 And Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends all that had happened to him. Then his wise men and his wife Zeresh said to him, “If Mordekai is of the descendants of the Yehudim, before whom you have begun to fall, you will not prevail against him, but will surely fall before him.” 14 And while they were still talking with him, the King’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Ester had prepared.
